Parkes nets four past Clough and Irwin inspires Rathcoole

Canada Trophy: A rampant Woodlands booked their spot in round two with a thumping 7-2 victory at Clough Rangers Athletic. Jonny Parkes rattled in four for the Carrick men, and Alex Haggan chipped in with a hat-trick. Woodlands are away again this week in Junior Division One at Cookstown RBL.

Michael Plant’s second-half strike proved crucial in Ballyclare North End’s 2-1 victory over Desertmartin Swifts. Sammy Bonnar netted the opener for Ballyclare.

Intermediate Division: Rathcoole found themselves one down at the break but an Adam Irwin hat-trick and goals from Aaron Lindsay and Lee Adams put them firmly in the driving seat against Ballysillan. The visitors scored twice more but it wasn’t enough as the Diamond men claimed a 5-3 win.

Junior Division One: Despite being two up at one stage, FC Whiteabbey had to settle for a share of the spoils at Cookstown Olympic in a 2-2 draw, with all the goals coming in the first half. Robert Tourish and Gerard Southam were on target for the Whites but the home side hit back through a Kevin Kelly penalty and a Martin Meenan strike.

Whiteabbey’s next opponents, Mallusk Athletic, lost 3-1 away to Magherafelt Sky Blues.

Late strikes by Mark Conn and Ryan McIlwaine were enough for Ballyclare Comrades Reserves to see off Cookstown RBL.

Junior Division Two: Ballynure Old Boys ‘B’ will be hoping to bounce back against Remo this weekend after Saturday’s 4-0 defeat at home to Magherafelt Sky Blues.

Remo themselves were on the wrong end of a 4-1 scoreline at Krag Albion. Jonny Robb got two, and Lee Cooper and Marc Kelly got the others for Albion.

Junior Division Three: Mountainview hit a magnificent seven without reply to sink 3rd Ballyclare Old Boys. Billy Brown was the star man, netting four, while Gareth Peoples landed an brace and Michael McFarlane got the other.

Res Star defeated Remo FC Reserves 5-0, while a Ross Middleton double and one from Kyle McBride secured a 3-0 win for Mallusk Athletic Reserves over 1st Carrickfergus Old Boys.

Whitehead Rangers got the edge over local rivals Castle Star Reserves with a 3-2 success. Glenn Jones, Ryan Murdock and Phil Hall netted for Rangers. Both Castle goals arrived in the first half, but they will be kicking themselves after they missed two penalties in the second session.

Junior Cup R3: Darren Adair got the only goal of the game as Antrim Rovers defeated Rathcoole Reserves.
