Snow patrol rescue actis all in vain

A band of hearty volunteers arrived at Planters Park early on Saturday morning to try and clear the icy snow off the pitch which would allow the clash with Lurgan Celtic to go-ahad.

However, all their sterling work came to nothing as eventually they were beaten by time and the game had to be postponed.

It was a blow and massive disappointment because the pitch was playable.

“I am disappointed for everyone connected with both clubs that the game had to be called off especially after all the hard work put in by the volunteers to try and clear the lying snow off the surface which underneath was perfect to play on,” said club chairman Hubert Watson.

“Given that all other local games were called off including the Glenavon game then Dollingstown missed out on what would have been our biggest gate of the season.”

“However, we will have to catch up now on a backlog of three matches at home to Glebe Rangers, Portstewart and Lurgan Celtic plus we are also away to Sport and Leisure,” added Hubert

This week Dollingstown are home to Glentoran Reserves in the Intermediate Cup and with Glenavon playing on Friday night the home side hope that many of the Lurgan Blues supporters will turn out to see how the Dollybirds perform against a young but well organised Glentoran team that beat Glenavon Reserves 4-2 last Saturday.

Kick-off at Planters Park is 1.30pm.

The next league game is away to bottom placed Ballymoney on January 31.
