Taylor praises his young guns as they battle until the death at Wakehurst

Wakehurst took the lead after eight minutes when David Gage headed home a Conor Gregg corner kick.

Gregg could have made it 2-0 minutes later but Madison pulled of a fine save to keep his side in the tie.

Portstewart were rewarded an equaliser thanks to a thunder bolt from Nigel Turner which gave Marc Maybin no chance in the Wakehurst goal.

Conor Ross put the home side in front once again just minutes before half time.

Gary Quinn made it 3-2 before Lee Forgrave got his head on the ball to level matters in added time.

Ports boss Gary Taylor was pleased with the effort of his side. “We gave Gary Quinn his first start, he has been playing well and gives you that something extra. Credit to the midfield of Lee Forgrave, Ryan Doherty, Luke Bradley and Dean Murray - they are causing teams lots of problems with their pace going forward. Nigel Turner has also been doing well since he came back from injury after Christmas. Nigel gives you a lot of strength, and he will battle for every ball, and that’s what we need.”

Portstewart entertain Sport and Leisure this Saturday, the game has a 3pm kick off.
