Foyle CC time trial staged in Campsie

“Time Trialling is not a easy discipline,” said Foyle C.C. racing secretary, Lawrence Watson.

“In fact it is probably one of the hardest aspects of modern day racing. It takes a special type of rider to master both road racing and time trialling, yet within Foyle Cycling Club, we have many that can turn their hand to both. Some aspire to be the next Tony Martin, while some just dig in like Mark Cavendish to get through the stage and wait for road success,” he added.

The start of the Campsie Series opened with the 5 miles TT and with perfect conditions. After some mid-afternoon showers, it soon dried up for the action.

Indeed, with some of the usual competitors absent on a training programme in Mallorca, numbers were predictably a little down on previous years.

Fifteen men and women took to the start ramp, 13 from Foyle and two from the local North-West Triathlon Club and a stunning finish saw star man Ryan Reilly (Foyle CC) take the win just ahead of season veteran Simon Gill and TT specialist Sammy McFadden both from Foyle C.C.

David Doherty came in 4th place, while Alvero San Miguel (NWTC) was first rider outside of the Foyle C.C. in 5th place

In the women’s race Maeve Maher McWilliams (NWTC) stormed to victory ahead of Foyle CC race ace, Rhonda Reilly, who is continuing her return to form showing perfect timing for the up and coming road stages.

A special thanks is extended to all those who raced and everyone who helped out on the day, particularly those who gave up their time to marshal the event.
