Black wins at Faughan Valley

THE glorious weather continued on Saturday and Neal Black (14) with 41 points claimed first place in the Donnelly and Taggart Weekend Open Stableford, at Faughan Valley.

Second spot went to Castlerock’s David Ussher (16) after he scored 41 points and Alan McWhirter (26) with 40 points was third.

The Gross winner was James Lindsay after he scored 67 gross, Eoghan Brolly (22) with 22 points won the front nine and Shane McGahon (7) with 24 points won the back nine.

This Saturday the Monthly Medal (Stroke) takes centre stage and on Sunday the Pampered Paws Open Stableford competition will be down for decision.

Meanwhile eight handicapper Glenn Curran secured Faughan Valley’s Mr President Trevor Peace’s Day

after scoring 39 points.

Second spot went to Clifford Caldwell (18) after he scored 38 points and Tony P Griffiths (12) with 37 points was third.

The gross winner was Paul Duffy after he finished with 78. Raymond Curley (20) with 19 points won the front nine and Scott Somers (16) with 21 points won the back nine.

Trevor Lewers was nearest the pin at the 10th hole and Alan McWhirter hit the longest drive at the 11th hole and Ian Dunn (21) with 39 points won the non-qualifier prize.

Redcastle’s Martin Harkin won the visiting President’s Prize, while Loren Smallwoods (18) with 38 points won the ladies section, while Marion Sayers (25) with 35 points was second.

The City of Derry Building Society inter club Singles knockout competition has now reached the semi-final stage, they must be played by July 28th, as does the quarter-finals of the Club Championship sponsored by Mr David Forbes.
