Father and son claim Winter league title at Dunmurry GC

The final of the Dunmurry Golf Club Winter League Morning section took place last Saturday over 18 holes and winners were father and son combination of Owen and Andrew Cochrane.

They saw off the challenge of Colin Riddel and Ian Halliday 4 and 3 - thanks to three birdies and an eagle two at the par four 14th from Andrew to go four up - and completed their victory on the 15th.

Third and fourth place play-off was won by Shane McIlvenny and Peter Quinn who defeated Matt Cochrane and Iain Ferguson 2 up.

Fred Coyle and Shane McCotter proved too strong for Ian Berry and Nigel Abernethy 3 and 2 to claim fifth prize.

Seventh place was claimed by Ward Orr and Stevie Thompson thanks to a 2 and 1 victory over Steven Donaghy and Jim Porter.

AFTERNOON SECTION

The following eight pairs qualified for the knockout stages and the draw for the quarter finals is as follows:- Roger Graham and Adam Spence v Davy Grey and Brian McCarey; Frank Watterson and Jo Wilson v Stevie McCollum and Nigel Rostbotham; John Wilson Jr and Gary Wilson v Johnny Moore and Simon Doherty; Maurice Ferguson and Harry Larkin v Neil Forsythe and Jack Scullion.
