George captures the Jubilee crown

Immediate Past Captain George Gillespie strolled to victory at a breezy Dunmurry last Saturday after posting an impressive 42 points.

George, playing off a handicap of 20, reached the turn in 21 points with a mixture of pars and bogeys, including a birdie at the 7th.

His run of pars and bogeys continued throughout his Back Nine, coming home in 21 points, including a par four at the treacherous 15th hole. A great round George, fully deserving of your victory and your subsequent two shot cut in handicap.

Runner-up to George was Paddy Ferrity (23) whose 21 points on the Back Nine was just enough to pip Peter Mc Robert’s (5) impressive 19 points. A double bogey 6 at the 18th was enough to deny Paddy overall victory on the day, though a handicap reduction of two shots will certainly lift his spirits. In Third Place, Peter Mc Roberts completed an outstanding round of golf in difficult conditions. With birdies at the 3rd, 8th and 14th holes, and a further thirteen pars on his scorecard, Peter can be delighted with his level par 70.

Shane Mc Cotter (6) was fourth with 40 points, completing another excellent round of 72, including birdies at the 3rd, 12th and 17th holes.

The best gross score went to Darren Crowe (+2) with a superb 68 which included 4 birdies, 12 pars and only two dropped shots, completing the Back 9 in 3 under par. The Senior Team Captain, Tony Cassidy, must have been impressed with the performances of several other members of the Senior Team squad with Ian Moore, Stephen Crowe, Michael and Graham Dickson, Glenn Mc Auley, Chris Morgan and young Matt Cochrane all performing well in this year’s Jubilee Trophy.

Wednesday’s Semi Open (14th May) was won by the Fred Daly Team Captain, Ryan Trimble (7), with an excellent 40 points. Best Gross was AJ Pigott (2) with a great level par 70. Well done Ryan and his Team who defeated Dungannon GC 6-1 in their Home Tie of the Fred Daly Trophy on Saturday May 17.
