Gerry the Captain’s Day winner

Captain Peter Graham was delighted with the condition of the course thanks to the tremendous work by the green-keepers headed by Raymond McVeigh, and with the course in such great condition it was no surprise that there were going to be some great scores on the day, and so it proved.

In first place was Gerry Beattie with 43 points, he had a front nine of 20 points with six pars at the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 7th and 8th holes, two single bogeys and one no-score at the 6th hole.

His back nine of 23 points included two birdies at the 10th and 14th holes, three pars at the 13th, 17th and 18th holes, three single bogeys and one double bogey on the 16th hole to win on a better back nine score.

In second place was Stephen Thompson again with 43 points, Stephen had 22 points on his front nine that contained one birdie at the 8th hole, six pars at the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 6th, 7th and 9th holes, one bogey at the 3rd hole and one double bogey at the 5th hole,.

On the back nine he had one birdie at the 13th hole, four pars at the 11th, 12th, 14th and 18th holes and four single bogeys at the remaining holes.

In third place was Dominic Marsden with 42 points. He had 18th points on his front nine, with three pars at the 2nd 6th and 7th holes, one double bogey at the 5th hole, and five single bogeys.

His back nine was a vast improvement with 24 points that included two birdies at the 14th and 17th holes, five pars at the 10th, 12th, 13th, 15th and 18th holes, one double bogey at the 11th hole and one bogey at the 16th hole.

The best gross on the day was no surprise with Fintan McAreavey collecting the prize with an excellent 3 under gross 69.

He carded a front nine of 34 with three birdies at the 1st, 4th and 5th holes, two bogeys at the 2nd and 6th holes and four pars. His back nine of 35 contained two birdies at the 13th and 18th holes and seven pars to pick up another gross prize.

Fourth prize went to Conor Hutchinson with 42 points , he had 20 points on his front nine with one birdie at the 3rd hole, four pars at the 1st, 4th, 5th and 7th holes and four bogeys,.

His back nine had one birdie at the 18th hole, five pars at the 12th, 13th, 14th, 16th and 17th holes and three bogeys.

The second gross prize went to Patrick Jordan with a level par 72. He had a front nine of 35 with two birdies at the 1st and 8th holes, two bogeys at the 3rd and 6th holes and five pars. His back nine of 37 had another two birdies at the 13th and 18th holes, two bogeys at the 10th and 16th holes and five pars.

The fifth prize went to Daryl Patton with 42 points, scoring 21 points on both of his nine holes. He had one birdie at the 4th hole, two double bogeys, seven single bogeys and eight pars in his round of golf.

The best junior prizes were, 1st place Nathan Thompson 39 points, 2nd Aaron Doyle 37 points and 3rd place was Jack Doyle with 34 points.

The best senior on the day was Seamus Patton with 41 points.

Longest drive Eugene McKeever (jnr) 301 yards; Closest to the captain’s drive James Nelson 2.1 meters; Closest to the 14th pin Michael Walsh 40 cm; Closest to the 2nd pin James Noble 4ft 6ins.
