HUNT IS ON FOR NEW BOSS

Monday November 26 has been pencilled in for the closing date for applicants and a committee meeting will then take place on November 27 to sift through the candidates.

The club hope to appoint someone afterwards but they do not seem to be any rush with Christmas mentioned as an informal deadline so the new man is in place before the transfer window opens in January.

In the mean time club stalwart John Fall will continue to be in charge of United.

The club was thrown into turmoil in recent weeks when Paul Gaston resigned.

Club Chairman Noel Lamont told the Times a committee meeting was held last week and it was agreed to openly advertise the post.

Speaking on Monday he said the call for candidates has been placed on the club’s website but by that early stage there had been no enquiries.

Prospective managers are asked to put their credentials down in writing and send their footballing CVs to the club.

Noel Lamont said he has heard a number of names linked with the job but he would not speculate.

But the local football world has been abuzz with names since ‘Gacky’ left the club.

A source told the Times this week: “Ballymoney may be down on their luck at the moment but down through the years Ballymoney United have always been highly regarded.

“Along with Glebe, Ballymoney are obviously one of the biggest names in the north coast and north Antrim areas after Coleraine and Ballymena. Several names have been bandied about but although it is rumoured that some of those names have already ruled themselves out.

“But the names that have been linked to the job include former Coleraine boss Davy Platt who has links to the youth set up at Ballymoney; former Ballymoney player Brendan ‘Hoser’ Kirgan; former Glebe boss Gary Scott; Simon Smith, James Gilchrist, John McMullan and former Rasharkin manager Chris Peacock.”
