Larne are thrashed at Sandy Bay

Larne First XI’s final home match of the season was to prove a disappointing climax as they were thrashed by Section 2 title-chasing Templepatrick.

With a heavy shower falling not long before the match, Ricky Greer had no hesitation in putting Larne in to bat on a pitch which was to offer plenty of assistance to the bowlers and a dismal batting performance saw the home team dismissed for just 66.

The damage was done by the young opening bowlers Jordan Carlisle and Ross Bryans, who bowled accurately to reduce Larne to 18-6, but some of the shot-making left a lot to be desired. It was only a battling 20 from Trevor Dempsey which prevented complete humiliation, but the final total was Larne’s lowest for many years.

Chris Busby and Robert Smith were the other successful bowlers for the visitors.

There were few alarms for Templepatrick in the chase as Jay Hunter and Andy McCrea saw them home without any loss of wickets, yet the Larne bowling was good and Ian Hill, Richard Hood, Gareth Gaw and Chris Dempsey were all a little unlucky not to pick up any wickets. Hunter was the aggressor and finished unbeaten on 40 and he was well supported by McCrea, who finished on 17 not out.
