Larne Grammar teacher off to netball World Cup

As a PE teacher at Larne Grammar, Hannah Irvine is used to supporting pupils in their sporting endeavours but this week the tables have been turned with the 26-year-old on the receiving end of the good wishes.

Irvine got a good send-off before finishing school on Monday ahead of flying to Singapore as a member of the Northern Ireland netball team which will be competing in the World Cup over the next couple of weeks.

She’s spent plenty of time recently marking papers and writing reports but she and her team are set to face several tough tests of their own in Singapore, including a daunting assignment against holders Australia - the most successful side in World Cup history.

But the girls in green have certainly done their homework in the lead-up to this tournament with no fewer than five squad sessions the week before last including strength and conditioning, sports psychology, match practice and video analysis.
