Larne’s golden girls

It was another golden day for Larne Swimming Club its members stormed to victory at the recent The War Memorial Relay Meet in Lisburn

Competing in one of the biggest dates in the local swimming calendar, their success began with the 12 and under team of Katie Baird, Maria Del Castillo, Megan Egerton and Georgia Lyttle claiming gold in the 4 x 25 freestyle relay.

The 14 and under Medley team relay of Danielle Hill, Kendra Kemp, Katie Doey and Oonagh O’Neill also swam to a gold medal in their event. Larne’s strength in depth was on show as two more of its teams also qualified for the final.

More medals soon arrived when boys’ 12 and under and 14 and under relays teams won silver in their relays.

Katie Baird also took part in a Commemoration ceremony on the night. She was named best 11 and under female swimmer for the 2010/11 season, and collected the prestigious Elizabeth Long trophy.

Next up for Larne is a home meet against Newry and Mourne Swimming Club in the Provincial Towns’ League, Division 1, in Larne on the 24th November.
