Late flurry of birdies gives McNeill victory at Galgorm

There was a very close and exciting competition throughout Division 1.

Through twelve Gary Jackson (5) was leading David Martin (6) and Adrian McCart (5) by one point followed by Jonathan McNeill (1) and John McCarry (4) another point behind. McCart parred the next to join Jackson (bogey) a point ahead of McCarry and Martin.

Jackson regained the advantage with a par at the Grove to lead by one point from McCart, Martin and an improving McNeill with two birdies. McCarry was another point away. Jackson finished with two pars and was joined by McNeill with another two birdies, and with a better last six McNeill took first place with Jackson second.

A point behind, Martin (bogey, birdie), McCart (two pars) and McCarry (birdie, par) finished together and with a better last six third place was taken by McCarry.

In Division 2 after three Robert Beggs (7) and Ivan Alexander (7) were a point ahead of Jonathan Keys (8) and Gareth Marcus (8). Young Adam Martin (8) ran into bogey trouble from the start and was a further three points behind.

A further three pars from Beggs moved him into a two point lead from Alexander, Marcus and an improved Martin with a par and two birdies. Keys was another point behind. Beggs came home with three pars to win by two points. Keys made a late run with a par, bogey and a birdie to draw level with Alexander who also finished with a par, bogey and a birdie and with a better last six second place was taken by Keys with third place going to Alexander.

Through rhe Maple in Division 3 William McKigney (11) was leading by one point from Michael Burton (10) with Colin Thompson (9) and William Kennedy (9) another point behind. A further two points away came Philip Magill (9). Over the following three holes Thompson with three pars joined McKigney (par and two bogeys) at the front to lead by one point from Kennedy (par, bogey, par) and an improving Magill (two pars and a birdie). Burton (three bogeys) was another point away. Thompson finished with two pars to win by two points from Magill (bogey, par) who in turn was another point clear of McKigney (‘ding’, par), Kennedy (double bogey, par) and Burton (bogey, par). With a better last six third place went to Kennedy. Mark Dunlop (2) won the gorss prize with 17 points.

Twos were recorded by – T.Alexander, M.Dunlop, Paul.Houston, G.Jackson, J.McNeilly, J.Surgeoner, G.Watt, Rod Lennox, M.McAuley, G.Marcus, A.Martin, P.Reid and J.Fitzgerald.

FRONT NINE

Tony Carroll (6) won the front nine competition with five points to spare over Seamus Laverty (7) and Adrian Adams (5) who finished together.

Twos were recorded by D.Stirling jnr. and T.Carroll.
