ARMOY: Michael Dunlop on pole for 'Race of Legends' showpiece

Michael Dunlop will start from pole position on his MD Racing BMW as he bids for a record sixth successive victory in the '˜Race of Legends' at Armoy.

Dunlop set the fastest time on his Superstock S1000RR during qualifying at 104.066mph, which put him 0.029 seconds ahead of Derek Sheils (Cookstown B.E. Racing Suzuki).

Derek McGee was third fastest on the Noel Williamson BMW ahead of William Dunlop (MMB Yamaha R1) and Dan Kneen (Mar-Train Yamaha R1).

Mullingar rider McGee set the pace in the Supersport session on his Yamaha R6 at 101.160mph ahead of Sheils on the Cookstown B.E. Racing Honda, who clocked 100.9678mph.

McGee sat out the opening Supersport race on Friday evening, which was won by William Dunlop.

The 30-year-old Ballymoney man was third quickest in qualifying ahead of his brother Michael, who finished as the runner-up in the 600cc opener.

McGee was fastest in the Supertwins session on the Cookstown B.E Racing Kawasaki by 0.3 seconds from James Cowton and Sheils.

Gary Dunlop, making his Armoy bow, was eighth fastest on William Dunlop’s Honda in the 125cc class. Christian Elkin headed the times by 1.8 seconds on Bob Wylie’s Moto3 Honda from Paul Jordan.

Roads close on Saturday morning at 10am sharp for a packed race schedule.
