Murray claims Half Marathon title

Pre-race favourite Gary Murray showed his class to win the annual Waterside Half Marathon on Sunday.

The St Joseph’s Boys teacher, who runs for Belfast’s St Malachy’s Athletic Club, broke the tape in 1.08.01 to win the 33rd Half Marathon.

City of Derry Spartan Declan Reed posted a personal best of 1.08.12 to take the runners-up spot for the second year in a row, while Foyle Valley’s Scott Rankin was third after he too recorded a new PB of 1.08.50.

Former Lifford AC athletic, Ann Marie McGlynn, secured the ladies race after finishing in 1.17.21, she was followed home by Raheney’s Fiona Stack.

A record entry of almost 2,000 runners competed in the event, which was cheered on by hundreds of spectators, who were supporting throughout the 13.1 mile course, which left and finished at the Gransha grounds.
