Looking back... New Mossley was to get its own library

The North Eastern Education and Library Board announced plans to build a new library in New Mossley estate in August 1979.

New Mossley was one of the biggest housing estates in the board area to be without a public library.

The new building was expected to be 3,000 sq ft in size and located beside Earlview Primary School.

A new library was also being planned for Ballyclare.

The board had been asked to vacate the facility’s location at Ballyclare Town Hall and was in search of temporary accommodation.

The board decided against a proposal to open a library at the Abbeycentre.

However, a new branch was to be completed in Rathcoole by November.
