O’Kane instrumental in Glenrovers’ victories

ACHL DIV 3 - GLENROVERS 8-10 CLOUGHMILLS 2-7

With perfect conditions and Home advantage Cloughmills must have entered this encounter as favourites, but despite sitting above Armoy in the league they must be scratching their heads as to where it all went wrong.

Glenrovers entered the game on a high after cruising past their Div 2 neighbours Carey with a 4-6 to 1-6 victory in mid week to secure a semi final spot in this year’s Countees of Antrim Cup.

After an exchange of points in the opening minutes, it was clear Cloughmills were not going to get everything their way as they struggled to breakdown the Rovers backline and get the ball to their talisman Kearns who was to have a quiet afternoon thanks to Corner back John Dillon.

The visitors only had to wait 5 mins to find the home team’s net when full forward Owen Kinney turned the ball past their keeper.

The next 10 mins saw the ball in the home net another two times with goals from Trevor Linton and Eamon Mc Caughan.

Cloughmill’s reply was two points before the break to go in trailing 3-4 to 0-4.

The Cloughmills halftime talk must have worked as the home team started the half with a goal and 2 points without reply to reduce the Rovers lead to 4 points.

Unfortunatley for Cloughmills the visitors’ reply was a goal from Billy Mc Clelland and when Eamon Mc Caughan blocked down the Cloughmills keeper and then turn the ball past him into his own net their heads started to drop.

The Rovers however were not in the mood to show any mercy and continued their onslaught with Eamon Mc Caughan completing his hat trick and further goals from Owen Kinney and Sub Arthur Devlin.

With such a high scoring game it’s easy to heap praise on the forwards and rightly so.

However a mention must also go to the Rovers backline who were execptional led by Paul Mc Erlain in full back who was brilliant.

Extra mention must also go to Connor O Kane and Eamon Mc Caughan who have been in outstanding form of late with top performances against Rasharkin, Carey and Cloughmills.
