Olympic Handball comes to the Lagan Valley LeisurePlex
The event, organised in association with the Irish Olympic Handball Association, saw men’s and women’s club teams from Dublin, Belfast and representative teams from the Republic and Northern Ireland, playing in a round robin tournament.
Presentations to the winning teams were made by the Chairman of the Council’s Leisure Services Committee, Alderman Paul Porter.

Hide AdSpeaking about the event, Alderman Paul Porter, said: “The aim of the event was to promote the sport of Olympic Handball in the Lisburn area and we are pleased to announce that Lagan Valley LeisurePlex will be hosting a series of matches for the Belfast Olympic Handball Club who are relocating to Lisburn.
“We also had a school’s event where primary and secondary schools were invited to try out fun taster sessions, coached by Irish Olympic Handball Association coaches. It was a great opportunity to introduce the people of Lisburn and beyond to the game of handball.”
Handball is a team sport in which two teams of seven players each - six outfield players and a goalkeeper on each team - pass a ball to throw it into the goal of the other team. A standard match consists of two periods of 30 minutes.
Training sessions will be taking place every Wednesday at Lagan Valley LeisurePlex at 8.30pm - 9.30pm.
