Rallysprint at Moneyglass this weekend

The fourth round of The Rallysport Association Summer Championship Series 2012 sponsored by Alltrak Rallysport, Craigavon returns to Moneyglass this Saturday 23 June at The Moneyglass Estate near Toome.

This is one of the venues for The Rallysport Association unique form of high action motorsport in Co Antrim and an impressive entry of around 85 competitors is expected.

There are seven classes ranging from the absolutely fantastic high speed juniors in Class 1 in their Novas and Corsas right through the field to the supercar class 8 turbo cars. There will be Impreza’s, Evos, Cossies, Escorts, Corollas, Civics, Peugeots, Citroens and all sorts of impressive machinery, all chasing for points in this the early rounds of this series.

The last round of this years series took place on June 9th at Aghadowey and young Garth Neill took another impressive win in Class 1 by just under 6 seconds from Patrick O’Brien. James Kennedy romped home with a huge cushion of 1minute and 28 seconds in Class 2 while David Stevenson showed them all how to do it once again in Class 3.

Andrew McMahon had a phenomenal drive in his front wheel drive Peugeot to take the win in Class 4 from the seriously talented young Jessica Orr in a Honda Civic and the turbocharged Mitsubishi EVO of Jason Curran was the winner of Class 8. John Gordon once again just ‘pipped’ Draperstown former multiple champion Hugh Watson to the winners title in Class 5 by only eight seconds while Keith McClelland who was enjoying the extra revs now available in his Toyota ran off with the winners award for class 6 in phenomenal style. Gerard Docherty had a fantastic days fun in his 1000cc motorbike engined buggy and finished top of the score sheets but as the ‘special’ class is excluded from the overall honours it was Keith McClelland who claimed the overall winners trophy once again.

So the action returns once again this Saturday to Moneyglass and with each competitors best five of the seven rounds to count. The action starts at 11.00am and will run right through until 4.30. It’s a great day out for all the family and with children and seniors getting free admission what better way of enjoying your weekend.
