Raymond misses out on Champions title

Raymond Stubbs just missed out on the top Champion of Champions prize when he lost to Kevin Conroy, Redeemer by a single shot at the Watson Stadium, Belfast on Saturday.

The Ballinderry bowler, lost the opportunity to represent Ireland at the Short Mat World Bowls in Preston in March.

Stubbs had a 10-0 win over T. Murnahan, Cooley in the quarter finals and went on to beat M. Beattie, Strabane CC 9-6 at the semi-final stage, but he lost a thriller by a shot in the final.

There was also a good performance by Nick Haire’s Hillsborough Social rink who lost 6-10 to Gerry McCabe, Redeemer in the fours semi-finals.

Haire had beaten John Quinn, Ballylennon, 7-3 at the quarter final stage and McCabe lost by a shot to Adrian Leckey in the final.
