South Antrim ladies earn fine win

Ballymena Thirds 0

South Antrim Ladies

Seconds 2

South Ladies Seconds travelled to the Academy hoping to build on their recent good performance in the Minor Cup.

Starting strongly with Catherine Faulkner and Amy Wright attacking down the centre South were quickly rewarded with a goal at close range, Amy Wright making a habit of placing the ball in the corner of the net.

South continued to attack down the left with Laura McConnell working hard to create a number of chances in the Ballymena circle.

Ballymena’s goalkeeper kept them in the match with some fine saves at close range.

Ballymena responded well but the Ballymena forwards were well marked by the South defence of Louise Boyd and Emer Drayne not giving them any space to mount an attack on goal.

South continued to look to add to their lead with Natalie Lowry and Cathy Gills working hard down the right but again the Ballymena keeper kept the score at 1-0 at half time.

The second half started as the first and it wasn’t too long until Laura McConnell was rewarded for her efforts by combining well with Amy Wright and finding the back of the net to make it 2-0.

Ballymena looking some consolation were awarded some short corners towards the end of the game but Lyndsay Boreham and Sarach Neill were able to clear any loose balls.

It was well done on a great team effort with three players of the match, Amy Wright, Louise Boyd and Laura McConnell.

Many thanks also to Fred Faulkner for travelling from Cookstown to umpire.

The Ladies host Donaghadee next Saturday at 2.30pm at their home pitch at Friends School and will be organising a bun sale to raise some funds so all welcome for support.
