Stewart-lee is British Champion

Since the 2012 London Olympics, Archery has seen a surge in popularity with all Clubs throughout the UK and Ireland recording a rise in new members participating in Beginners Courses.

This year at the British National Outdoor Championships held in Telford, England, the Organisers witnessed their highest ever entry to date with over 300 Archers shooting in the 2 Day event.

Aged 15, Stewart-lee Macfadyen (pictures above) from local club Causeway Archers attended this year for his third successive Outdoor Championships. It was to prove 3rd Time Lucky for Stewart-lee who this year won the event and became the first British Champion from the Club shooting the Olympic discipline.

The distances shot at the National events are respective of age groups with Stewart-lee shooting at Targets up to 60 metres away. This is the distance shot by all archers aged 18 and under (Cadets) all over the World. This is 10 metres short of the Olympic distance of 70m. 144 Arrows are shot in total with the highest score per arrow being a 10 for a Centre Gold. Stewart-lee shot 107 Golds and secured his first British Title. This Title now adds to his growing collection as he already holds the Northern Ireland Championship and the All-Ireland Championships Medals.

Causeway Archers are now taking names for their next Beginners Course starting soon.

The Club has its main facility based in Ballymoney and another Branch based in Cushendall. With membership spread as far as Strabane to Antrim Town the Club attracts families to its growing numbers. The Sport allows members of the same family to compete alongside or against each other at regular Competitions which are held weekly / monthly within the Club and at neighbouring clubs.

The Club has also just secured its first permanent Field Archery Venue in Cullybackey for all members to participate in a challenging course with Targets spread throughout the forest terrain, up and down hills, across a lake and alongside a river.

So come along and visit the Club on any of its Shooting Nights on a Sunday 2-5pm or Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 7-9pm.
