They are issuing a challenge to all clubs, lodges, bands, political parties and other interested members of the PUL community to show how much they actually know about their culture and the historical facts surrounding the various commemorations that we celebrate in pursuit of our cultural heritage.

Coordinator of the Londonderry Bands Forum Derek Moore told the Sentinel that sections of questions would be integrated into the main general knowledge quiz to find out if we actually know as much as we think about the Orange Order, Apprentice Boys Of Derry, Rangers FC and general aspects of our cultural history.

During outreach work with the Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland and the Londonderry Bands Forum it has emerged that some of the young people and some not so young have a restricted and rose-tinted view of the reality and factual history of our past.

One group of young people actually thought the Battle of the Somme had something to do with the Williamite Wars of 1690.

Although the questions will not be overly difficult Derek feels that the results of this part of the quiz will be of great interest given that the GOLOI, ABOD and other cultural groups are working in all sections of the community to raise awareness of all aspects of the past and our part in this history.

The results will also give the GOLOI and the ABOD ideas of how to move forward as they have both now have opened new multi-million Pound interpretive and museum facilities in Belfast, Loughgall and Londonderry.

So, for a fun filled night the Memorial Hall is the place to be on Wednesday, August 5, at 8.30pm.
